'What It Is, What It Is' (a greeting usually meaning,"hey", "What's up?")

Our friends Erica and Jeff had a 70's themed housewarming party this weekend. Erica, Jeff and Erica's sister Ashley dressed up as the cast from "Three's Company": Janet (Erica), Jack (Jeff) and Chrissie (ashley).

Nick and I sported some groovy polyester from the local retro store.

Twin Lakes trail

We decided to take the opportunity to go on a hike this weekend, which is the first weekend in a long time that we didn't have other plans- and Nick wasn't working. We packed a light lunch and took off for the north shore with Copper eagerly wagging his tail in anticipation of a great hike.

Hiking along the shore is beautiful, with some fall colors coming out due to the extreme lack of rain we have had. The twin lake trail which we hiked is a spur of the Superior Hiking Trail that extends from Duluth to the Canadian border, or close to it. Though long, the elevation changes are not as great compared to the trails in the West.

It was about 60 degrees and overcast, but overall a perfect day for hiking.

We let Copper off of his leash for the first time - he did very well! He would run ahead of us, stop and turn with one paw up, and look at us impatiently.

We had a great day - hiked about 9 miles, Copper was running the entire time. He was very tired, and could hardly keep his eyes open on the way home.

Bayfield, WI

Sarahs parents were up for Labor Day weekend so we decided to take a day trip to Bayfield, WI. We took the ferry over to Madeline Island - it was a beautiful day!

The sailboats were out in full force - this was a picture taken from the ferry ride.

We stopped at the Bayfield winery and tasted some apple based wines.

We all need one of these.....
